Why Do Hardwired Devices Have Batteries? You Need to Physically Connect the Battery Storing For More Than 5 Months Next Steps

Why Do Hardwired Devices Have Batteries?

Our range of hardwired devices still sport internal batteries to aid in SVR (Stolen Vehicle Recovery) so that there is enough power for the device to send out an ‘external power lost’ message and alert stakeholders to a possible incident. It can also power the device for a substantial amount of time without external power and keep the device from resetting constantly in the case of a loose wire (until it can be rectified).

You Need to Physically Connect the Battery

For safety and compliance during shipping, our hardwired units will arrive with their LiPo batteries disconnected. You will need to connect the battery to the PCB in order for the device to function properly. Please see below for visual guidance.

Ensure that the orientation of the JST connector pieces matches this image.

When plugged in, the tabs on the JST connector will lock the connector in place.
Some devices will have the battery installed on the underside, and the wires will emerge without a battery visible.

Storing For More Than 5 Months

Batteries will naturally discharge even when disconnected. To avoid issues, please see our guide on safe battery storage:

 Next Steps

After connecting your external batteries and before sending them to the customer, we recommend bench power your devices to ensure that they take any pending updates from the server.
