Requesting Media from Dashcams
Retrieving video footage from the SD card of an AI Camera
Table of Contents
Getting Specific Footage From a Camera
While AI Dashcams will automatically upload anything that their AI firmware detects to be relevant, they also store video footage into their onboard SD cards during operation. This media can be retrieved remotely, but the camera only has a limited storage capacity, and older footage will be overwritten by new footage in a rolling process. In order to access stored media remotely, cloud servers need to establish a connection* with the camera and request it to upload a snippet of footage from its SD Card. Telematics Guru can facilitate this with the Video Requests function, which is available on several screens.
* Please note: If the camera is turned off or out of coverage, this connection make take some time to initiate.
Permissions Required
The specific user permission required to request media is Camera Media Manage.
Trip History Map View
- Navigate to History → Trip History Map View and then select a date, an asset, and a trip.
- Using your cursor, hover your mouse over a telemetry point on the highlighted trip route (arrow icon) and click on the Request Media button.
- You should now see the Media Request popup, which will be pre-filled to the timestamp of the telemetry point that is chosen.
Manage Trips View
- Navigate to History → Manage Trips and select an asset and find a the trip during which your target media would have occurred.
- From within the table, locate the camera icon and click on it.

Requesting Media
You can choose the date, time and length of your media request with the Media Request popup.
- Give your request a name - this will show up in the Video Requests screen.
- Choose the date and time of your media request. This will be constrained to the time of the selected trip. Please note that the trip is determined by the asset, which will match the video availability perfectly if the asset is the camera itself, but may not match perfectly if the asset is another piece of hardware.
- The duration indicates how long the video will be. A longer video will take longer to upload and may take some time to appear on the platform.
Once you click Create a request will be sent to the camera platform to contact the camera. Updates on the progress of your request can be found on the Video Requests screen. Once your media is ready, it will also appear in the Asset Timeline and the Trip History Map view like any other media event.
The Video Requests Screen
The Video Requests screen allows you to monitor the progress of media requests and view them in a centralized location. To access the Video Requests screen navigate to History →Video Requests.
