The G120 Bluetooth Tag scanning uses the same functionality as the Remora2.

The key difference is that the Remora2 will only periodically turn on it's Bluetooth module and scan for devices, given it is battery powered.

Since the G120 is hard-wired it can be set to scan continuously for tags (but the periodic mode is also an option if desired).

Continuous tag scanning means that a tag will be recognised as found/lost as soon as it enters/leaves range.

It is generally preferable to use the continuous mode.

System Parameters for BLE scanning

Edit the system parameters and add BLE Global Settings. This must be enabled for BLE functionality to work.

You can now add BLE Basic Tag Scanning for basic scanning.

  • Device is Stationary - Set to Yes if the G120 will be set up in a permanent, fixed location
  • Scan on Trip Start – Set to Yes if the G120 should scan for tags when staring a trip
  • Trip Start Scan Offset (s) - Once a trip has started, how long to wait before doing a tag scan
  • Scan on Trip End - Set to Yes if the G120 should scan for tags when a trip ends
  • In-Trip Scan Period (m) - Time between scans during a trip. Set to 0 to disable this functionality
  • Upload on In-Trip Scan - Upload tag data from the above scans. If disabled, tag data will be sent through on the next scheduled upload.
  • Out of Trip Scan period(m) - Period between scans when out of a trip
  • Upload on Out of Trip Scan - Upload data on an out of trip scan
  • Scan Length (s) - Length of time in seconds to scan for tags. This may need to be increased in areas with a lot of Bluetooth traffic, or when tags are being missed
  • Minimum Tag RSSI (dBm) - Set minimum signal strength to qualify tag as 'In range'. This can be used to reduce the effective range of a scan, so that only very close tags are reported
  • Enable DM Tags - Scan for Digital Matter Guppy Bluetooth tags
  • Enable iBeacon Tags
  • Enable Eddystone Tags (UID)
  • Other Tag Types 1,2,3 - Scan for other tags (includes customer tags)

Alternatively, the G120 allows you to enable “Always on” tag scanning, which means that the G120 will continuously scan and monitor when BLE tags are lost or found. This tab can be added opposed to the BLE Basic Tag Scanning.

  • Enable Scanning – Set to Yes if the G120 should continuously scan for tags
  • Upload on Tag Found – Upload when a new tag is found
  • Upload on Tag lost – Upload when a tag has not been seen for the set expiry time
  • Upload Log Period – time between logging which tags have been found/lost
  • Tag Expiry Time- period of not seeing the tag before it is considered lost
  • Enable DM Tags - Scan for Digital Matter Guppy Bluetooth tags
  • Enable iBeacon Tags
  • Enable Eddystone Tags (UID)
  • Other Tag Types 1,2,3 - Scan for other tags (includes customer tags)
  • Device is Stationary - Set to Yes if the G120 will be set up in a permanent location

The G120 is able to record when the tag was lost by analysing where the tag signal was last the strongest.
