Driver ID System Parameters

This article will go over the System Parameters needed for the different Driver ID options on Wired devices offered by Digital Matter.


OEM Server System Parameters:

Driver ID: this sets up:

Buzz on no Driver ID
if a trip starts and a Driver ID tag has not been scanned, sound the buzzers. Buzzers may be external via the digital output or internal to the RFID reader.
Immobilise
if Yes, immobilise via the digital output until a Driver ID tag is scanned.
Expire on Trip End
immediately expired the Driver ID when a trip ends. Otherwise, use the expiry time.
Test Against List
if Yes, ensure any scanned Driver ID tags are present in the Driver List. If set to No, allow any driver.
Expiry Time
How long a Driver ID remains cached after scanning. If a trip starts while cached, it is kept until the end of the trip, or until another tag is scanned.

4 Wire Plug Function
specify if the RFID Reader or iButton is being used. (Dart series Only)

Power
Should the system rail output be turned off when the Dart goes to sleep.

System Rail Output
What the system rail output wire is setup to do. If used with an RFID reader, ensure it is set to "system rail output".
If used with an iButton reader, it can be used in different ways. For example set it to LED and connect it to an LED in the reader (don't forget the resistor in series).

Types of Driver ID available

DM RFID Reader (Default) 

The reader plugs into the Molex connector and reads 125kHz RFID cards. There is an LED and buzzer built into the reader. Plug the reader into the plug and ensure the the 4 wire connector function in system parameters is set to DM RFID Reader. Note that this is different to the CAN RFID reader used on other products (G60, G100)

The 4 Wire Plug Function Tab must have the function set to 'DM RFID Reader' for the reader to work. This is set by default.


iButton Reader

The Dart has a 4 way Molex connector on its wire harness. This exposes 4 functions in the wires that are currently used for the 2 purposes described above, The wires are:

  1. System Rail Output on Purple: 4.7V output when connected to external power. Battery voltage output when running on the battery.
  2. Ground on Black
  3. TTL Tx on Brown.
  4. TTL Rx on Green.

This allows the system rail output to used for another purpose, such as LED in the reader - be sure to use a resistor in series (one is already fitted to DM iButton readers). The 4 way Molex connector will need to be cut off, exposing the wires, if the iButton reader does not have a corresponding Molex connector.

You'll need to set the 4 Wire Plug Function to iButton for the reader to work.

Note

there was a small change on the Dart to accommodate the iButton readers. This was made in August 2016. It should be usable on Darts with serial numbers greater than 122000.
